Barb, help! I have been trying to create my starter using dark rye flour and the same thing has happened 3 times in a row, the starter seems fine for the first two days but on the 3rd day, mold starts to grow on top, a beige mold. I have thrown out 3 batches. I also just started a starter using just plain all purpose flour and that is holding up well. What could be wrong with my dark rye starter? I am very careful with cleaning the glass jars, making sure there is no soap residue. Thank you for your help. Btw, I live in Manila, Philippines.
