My grandmother made parve rugelah. She live in the Cat Skills and she would make hundreds at a time. When she would come to Texas once a year, she would fill the freezer baking for days. Hers were the best nut,date,cinnamon sugar with apricot jam as the schmear or glue to hold it together. She used Crisco vegetable oil instead of butter. Sugar, crisco, eggs vanilla, orange juice, baking powder and salt. They were amazing and to this day I can see myself sitting on the chair on my knees watching her doing this.
