Thanks, Judith — I think this is probably a bit more math than the typical reader wants to perform, but it's good information for those really interested in delving into the subject. Our weights are calculated by weight — if I understand your question correctly. E.g., to calculate the weight of molasses, I tare a 1-cup measure, fill it with molasses, and weigh it on a scale.
