For years, I would use Rome or MacIntosh. Kroger stopped carrying them. I did a search on my phone and Honeycrisp were suggested. That's what I use if I can't find Rome, MacIntosh, or Northern Spy, which are never available south of the Mason-Dixon line, where I currently live. The Honeycrisp seemed to work fine!
