Hi Uli, it sounds like you made a swap for the chocolate chips and used butterscotch chips instead. This adjustment might not impart the same kind of shiny crust you're looking for, so we recommend using a quality brand of chocolate chips in your next batch of brownies. You can also try heating the butter and sugar in your brownie recipe together to help dissolve the sugar slightly before letting it cool and adding the other ingredients.
