I had probably less than 2 teaspoons of dried starter that I scrapped off the side of my container. I put in a small zip lock bag and put in the freezer. To bring it to life, I added 2 grs. water and when dissolved, 2 grams of Whole wheat flour. Then I just kept building up from there, till I had starter for Basic Sourdough bread.

I keep about 8 oz in fridge and then have the backup of frozen.
