My mom always put chopped dates and walnuts in her banana bread. The recipe was handwritten on a sheet of looseleaf paper, much folded, and tucked in between the pages of one of her cookbooks. I have since copied it onto my computer and printed copies for friends and family. I usually make it plain since my husband does not like dates, or sometimes I put chocolate chips in it. He often likes muffins made from the recipe.
I inherited the baking gene from my mother, and truly enjoy baking bread, pie, muffins and quickbreads. I am branching out a little recently and trying new ideas. Of course, at the moment I am curtailed because my oven is on the fritz and it will be another week or so before my replacement stove is delivered and hooked up. sigh...
