Hi Linda, pound cake is meant to be  on the dense side so a different style of cake may be preferable in your household, such as this recipe for Classic Birthday Cake. The main reason any recipe turns out dense is if too much flour is added, so we recommend measuring ingredients by weight using a kitchen scale. If that's not possible, using the fluff, sprinkle, scrape method is the next best thing.
