Hi CJ! Thanks for bringing this up and asking for some clarification. The added amount here is to "build up" your starter so you have enough to use in your bake, and enough left over to continue feeding. Which means it does involve discarding. You'll want to discard here as you've done before, but feed it a bit more than your usual. In other words, one rule we always go by is: whenever you feed it, there should always be a discard. So treat this feeding the same, discard, but build up your feeding so when it is ready in 8 ours, you have extra starter for the bake, but the perfect about left over to continue feeding.
