Hi, Caroline! When your starter is new, all kinds of somewhat funky smells are pretty normal. Cheese, dirty socks, even nail polish remover! As your yeasts and bacteria settle into a good balance, the aroma will start to resemble more of a recognizable yeasty/sour smell. Just keep feeding it!
