If you see any signs of discoloration or mold growing, you'll know it is time to start again. You should also see bubbles actively form after you give your starter fresh flour and water in a feeding. If you try feeding it twice during a 12 hour period and don't see any activity, the wild yeast may have died. Check out the "reviving a dormant or neglected starter" section of this sourdough blog post here. It should give you the tips you need to successfully bring your starter back to life. Good luck!
