Noel, 12 hours after a feeding it will be less bubbly and active looking. That is normal. It won't always look like the one in the photo. Feed it once a day if you store it at room temperature. If you store it in the fridge, take it out and feed it once a week. The difference between fed and unfed is the difference between active and inactive. Even your unfed starter will have been fed at some point, it simply means it's the starter that you were about to discard, and it is no longer as active as the starter that was just fed.
