Purloined culture? I mixed the flour and water in a mason jar, then crumbled in a slice of our favorite sourdough bread (from San Luis Obispo, California) minus the crust. Covered the jar with a paper towel and secured it with the ring. In 2 days I had a vigorous starter going. So far, bread, waffles, pizza crust, and pretzels. Good stuff, and the bread tastes exactly like the SLO sourdough.
