Tara, if you're measuring water or milk, the weight of 1 cup by volume equals 8 ounces. If you're measuring flour, which is much lighter, the weight per cup is between 4 and 4 1/4 ounces. Your measuring cup wouldn't weigh 8 ounces if filled with feathers, right? Susan
