I have frozen a couple of apple pie fillings ahead in storage bags, molded to the shape of my pie pan, but I did not make or freeze any crusts. Can I make a fresh pie crust, then drop the unthawed frozen filling in the unbaked crust and bake immediately? Or should I thaw the filling before putting it in a fresh crust and baking. I have read the comments that say you can bake direct from freezer to oven but they all seem to be talking about a whole assembled pie. Any difference? (I have never submitted a question before in a discussion like this so this will be really neat if it works! Thank you.) If it were me, I'd thaw first, drain off excess liquid, boil it down, and add back the syrupy remains - YUM. You could certainly do as you say, though, so long as you bake it for probably a couple of hours. Don't worry, the crust won't burn if you tent it with foil after the first 45 minutes or so... PJH
