I have alternately used a baking pan with water or just a apray bottle filled with water to provide steam. I fill the baking pan with 1 inch of hot water and place it in the oven as it preheats, so the oven fills with steam. Or if I'm feeling lazy, as I put the bread in I spritz the oven walls and floor with the spray bottle - but I have an all metal oven with no window, so there's no danger - and the oven has to be sparkling clean.
