I tried to grow tomatoes this year, too, in Phoenix AZ. Of course I didn't have to worry about frost or rain. However, I do get javelinas who love the tomatoes - plant and all! I am still trying to find some kind of a repellent to keep them out of my yard. They are very destructive and I still would like tomatoes. . . It just goes to show, be happy with the problems you've got!
